Join the slow stitching movement by adding large hand stitches to your quilt. You can cover your entire quilt in hand stitching, or just add bits here and there. Jane will help you plan a design for whatever quilt you bring to class and will show you just how enjoyable it can be to embellish your project by hand. Bring a quilt that you want to embellish or bring an 18 inch quilt sandwich to practice your stitching. Examples of Big Stitch in the store: The Paint Lake Quilt and Urban Abacus are embellished with Big Stitches.

Jane Ewald, creative hand stitcher and quilter, loves to find unusual projects like this vintage-style quilt! She says both confident beginners and more advanced quilters will enjoy making it. Inspired by a design by Heather French called French Roses, Jane wanted to try a rag-quilt approach. You'll love the simple raw-edge applique process. She'll show you how to use either free motion or regular machine stitching to quilt each block separately, then join them with exposed seam allowances for a shabby chic style. If you want that extra cuddly heirloom feel, wash your quilt on a high agitating cycle, dry it, and start snipping threads!

This is a comprehensive course designed to guide the student through the process of making a quilt. We offer several classes that will help you to create and complete a basic quilt pattern. This course is more extensive. You will learn about basic quilting techniques that cover rotary cutting, making blocks, making blocks faster, pressing, choosing fabrics, quilting, and binding. We will talk about different tools that make creating blocks easier and more successful. When you are finished with the course you will have what you need to design a sampler quilt. What's more you will hopefully be inspired and understand that you don't have to have a specific pattern to be creative and make a quilt. You just need a little confidence and inspiration. One student has described the class as being a class with a mentor who answers questions and inspires learning. Are you up for the challenge? You don't need to have prior experience or knowledge for this class. Just a desire to learn.
