Join the slow stitching movement by adding large hand stitches to your quilt. You can cover your entire quilt in hand stitching, or just add bits here and there. Jane will help you plan a design for whatever quilt you bring to class and will show you just how enjoyable it can be to embellish your project by hand. Bring a quilt that you want to embellish or bring an 18 inch quilt sandwich to practice your stitching. Examples of Big Stitch in the store: The Paint Lake Quilt and Urban Abacus are embellished with Big Stitches.

This is a comprehensive course designed to guide the student through the process of making a quilt. We offer several classes that will help you to create and complete a basic quilt pattern. This course is more extensive. You will learn about basic quilting techniques that cover rotary cutting, making blocks, making blocks faster, pressing, choosing fabrics, quilting, and binding. We will talk about different tools that make creating blocks easier and more successful. When you are finished with the course you will have what you need to design a sampler quilt. What's more you will hopefully be inspired and understand that you don't have to have a specific pattern to be creative and make a quilt. You just need a little confidence and inspiration. One student has described the class as being a class with a mentor who answers questions and inspires learning. Are you up for the challenge? You don't need to have prior experience or knowledge for this class. Just a desire to learn. ***IF YOU'RE INTERESTED IN TAKING THIS COURSE, please contact the shop to speak with the education coordinator at (615) 370-9662.***
